NIGERIAN CAPTAIN REACTS
Ahmed Musa Reacts As Referee Gassama Apologizes For Disallowed Goals Against South Africa
Super Eagles
stand-in captain, Ahmed Musa, says he has forgiven Gambian referee, Bakary
Gassama, after his errors cost the Super Eagles two goals, during the 1-1 draw
with South Africa last Saturday.
Gassama and his
assistants chalked off two Nigeria goals for offside, but replays showed
otherwise.
In the first half
of the encounter played at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, Musa thought he had
assisted a Kelechi Iheanacho goal, but saw it flagged for offside.
Musa again, with
few minutes left in the tie, ran onto Alex Iwobi’s incisive pass to score what
would have been the winner, but it was ruled out.
After the game, he
took to the social media to question the calls, also poking at CAF.
The referee,
however, apologized to Musa and Nigeria for the mistakes and the forward has
waved off the incidents, stressing that their qualification for AFCON 2019, has
made up for the wrong decisions.
“I will say that
it was good that he realized his mistakes and apologized for his action and it
is past tense for me.
“The major thing
is that we have qualified for Afcon for the first time since 2013 and we are
delighted about that. I don’t see any big deal about that because our emphasis
was on playing at the Africa Cup of Nations and now that we have qualified, we
are relieved.
“I am not worried
that I was not able to score because we didn’t lose and we have got our heart
desires with the ticket to Cameroon. We know that it is time now for serious
preparations and that is what we are after now,” Musa told reporters in Asaba,
ahead of the Super Eagles’ friendly match against Uganda.

Former President

He said this at the public presentation and formal launching of a book titled
“My Transition Hours” written by Jonathan.
He said that “I
was not surprised when Jonathan conceded defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari
in 2015”.

Jonathan approached leadership in a relaxed manner and that was why he left a

transition we had when you freely and voluntarily conceded defeat.
“By your decision,
you have shown that you love your country more than you love power,” he said.
The Presidential

Nigeria was fortunate to have a selfless leader like the former President.
He said that the
decision of Jonathan to concede defeat in 2015 had helped to consolidate
democracy not only in Nigeria but on the African continent.
